Senior Electrical Engineer

Since 1985, Data Security, Inc.® has been the world leader of National Security Agency (NSA) evaluated products for digital data destruction; through innovative design, we hold many patents. We design, manufacture, sell and support our products worldwide, out of Lincoln, Nebraska. We are a small, locally owned and operated company, with a global customer base and a global impact on data security.

The Electrical Engineer position is responsible for the design of electronic, electrical, electromagnetic, magnetic and electromechanical subsystems and products. Through innovation, efficiency and principled design practices, this position works as a member of the engineering team to create products to fulfill market driven needs.

Essential Functions

  • Advise Engineering team as the subject matter expert in development, integration, and production of high-power electronics and motor control products.
  • Act as a mentor to Electrical Engineers and manage the time of others to ensure timely completion of milestones
  • Work with the internal Engineering team, as well as vendors and customers to research and develop electronic and electrical subsystems and products for industrial and commercial applications
    • Degausser magnetic design, to include permanent magnet and electromagnetic design
    • Electrical component selection for new product design
    • Panel, circuit board and wiring design on new and existing products
    • International design and power configuration for new and existing products.
  • Conduct research and analyze data and specifications to evaluate the feasibility, design, operation, performance, cost and requirements of new product designs
  • Prepare, review and revise documents related to product designs, revisions and production procedures
  • Assure product quality by developing inspection and test protocols
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations
  • Design equipment and processes to an acceptable level of customer safety requirements and expectations - mitigate product hazards and liability issues
  • Identify and follow workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • Provide information and support to the Manufacturing team
  • Provide information and support to the Sales and Service teams
  • Other duties as assigned by management


  • Practical and demonstrable experience with Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and CAD packages for either research or commercial products that are currently available.
  • Remain current with latest technical innovation and emerging technologies in the electrical engineering field by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks or participating in professional societies
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost/benefits analysis to maximize the effective manufacture of products
  • Electrical/electronic/magnetic knowledge
  • Experience/knowledge in finite element method (FEM) analysis
  • Experience in the following software:
    • Microsoft Office Applications
    • Integrated development environment for machine firmware and logic controller programming

  • CAD Applications; schematic capture, circuit board layout, illustrations for customer documentation
  • Magnetic and electromagnetic finite elements analysis
  • Manufacturing Resources Planning Applications - item definition and BoM entry
  • Ability to work with basic electronic instruments: multimeter, oscilloscope, wave form analyzer, signal generator, counter/timer and magnetometer
  • Competency using vendors' component parametric searches
  • Ability to read and interpret data sheets to match best available parts to new product requirements
  • Ability to develop and design circuits, including permanent magnet circuit design, electromagnetic coil/circuit design, wiring plans and component layouts
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment, a manufacturing floor, and an engineering lab.

Physical Demands

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand. The employee is occasionally required to bend, twist or reach as well as lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision preferred and the ability to adjust focus between multiple tasks.

40 hours per week, must be available 8 A.M.-5 P.M., Monday-Friday. Must be willing to travel/work outside of normal business hours.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 10 years' experience in applicable field

Preferred Education and Experience

Advanced Engineering degree and/or experience in permanent or electrical magnetics
